Is Your 1990-1995 Acura Integra not starting? Not Cranking?

Acura Integra starter starting clicking cranking If you own a 1996-2006 Acura Integra and it’s not starting, not cranking, just clicking; there’s a good chance it’s your starter motor.  I’ll guide you through a simple, step-by-step process to troubleshoot and replace motor if needed.

Alternator issues? Oil leak? Vibrations?

Check for Recalls

What does it do?

In simple terms, it’s an electric motor that helps your engine begin its operation. When you turn the key, the starter motor engages, turning the engine over and to start running.  In the old days there would be a crank on the front of the car to turn instead!

Symptoms

The most common symptom is a clicking sound when you try to start the car. The engine is not cranking, will likely will only be clicking, not starting, or maybe nothing at all.  This usually means one of a couple of problems.

Troubleshooting

  1. Battery: Check if your battery is fully charged.
  2. Starter Relay: Check in the fuse box and check for any signs of damage.
  3. Test: If the battery and relay are fine, it’s time to test the starter. You can do this by using a voltmeter to check for power at the starter when the ignition is engaged.

OBD Codes

While these issues might not always trigger a check engine light, certain OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) codes can be related to starting issues, such as:

  • P0615
  • P0616
  • P0617

See all the OBD codes here.

If the above tests point to a faulty starter motor, here’s how you can replace it:

  1. On the Acura Integra, it’s usually located at the lower front of the engine.
  2. Disconnect the Battery
  3. Remove the Starter Motor: Disconnect the electrical connections.
  4. Install the New Starter
  5. Reconnect Battery and Test: Once everything is reconnected, turn the ignition to see if the car starts.

Final Thoughts

If the engine isn’t cranking and your battery is good, this is the most probable reason.  Replacing one in your Acura Integra isn’t quick, but it’s not difficult and will save you some money. Always remember, if you’re unsure, don’t hesitate to seek professional help.
