Aston Martin
Aston Martin, the prestigious luxury sports car manufacturer, has an amazing history that dates back to its inception in 1913. Founded by Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford in London, they initially started as Bamford & Martin Ltd. The focus was on the creating distinctive and high-performance cars. The name “Aston Martin” emerged following Lionel Martin’s successful run at the Aston Hill Climb in 1914.
During the 1920s and 1930s, Aston Martin began to establish its reputation in the world of motorsports. Cars like the Ulster stood out for its performance in competitions. The company underwent several financial and ownership changes during this time, a theme that would recur in later years.
Post World War II, under David Brown’s ownership, the brand gained significant fame, especially with the launch of the iconic ‘DB’ series of cars. Models like the DB5, which famously appeared in the James Bond film “Goldfinger” in the 1960s, cemented Aston Martin’s image as a symbol of British elegance and performance.
In the latter part of the 20th century Aston Martin expanded its lineup. The V8 Vantage in the 1970s and the DB7 in the 1990s were recognized for their design and technology.
Aston Martin in the 21st Century
Entering the 21st century, the impressive models continued to be born. The Vanquish, the DB9, and more recently, the DB11 have all been a great success. They became well known for design and technology. They also continued to expand into new markets, adding SUVs with the launch of the DBX.
Throughout its history, Aston Martin has faced financial challenges and ownership changes, yet quality, looks, and performance were not affected. They’ve also had good success creating a strong motorsport heritage. Today, the company continues to be a major player in the luxury sports car market, known for its distinctive design, advanced technology, and of course the sound they produce from each tailpipe.
