Founded in 1903 by David Dunbar Buick, the company holds the distinction of being the oldest active American car brand and one of the original members of the General Motors (GM) family.

In its early years, Buick quickly gained a reputation for reliability, particularly with the introduction of the overhead valve engine. This period saw the emergence of models like the Model B, the first car produced under the name in 1904.

The 1920s and 1930s marked a period of growth and popularity.  Models like the Master Six and the Roadmaster, introduced in the 1930s, smooth ride, setting a standard for American luxury automobiles.

Post World War II, Buick continued to build its reputation for premium vehicles. The 1950s and 1960s saw the introduction of models like the Riviera and the Electra 225.  These followed the design trends of the time, also with powerful engines, and plush interiors.

During the latter part of the 20th century, Buick maintained its position, though it faced challenges from both foreign competition and changing preferences. In response, Buick gradually shifted its focus, with more modern designs, technology, and efficiency into its vehicles.

The turn of the century saw the company evolving to meet the demands of a global market. The brand enjoyed success in China, becoming one of the country’s top-selling American brands. This success influenced Buick’s global strategy, leading to the introduction of models like the Enclave and the Regal.

Today, Buick continues to be an important part of the General Motors portfolio, known for its quiet and comfortable luxury vehicles. The brand has embraced the shift towards SUVs and crossovers, with models like the Envision and Encore. It continues to evolve as the brand adapts to the changing dynamics of the global automotive market.
