Founded in Cadillac 1902, the company was established out of the remnants of the Henry Ford Company.  It was named after Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, sieur de Cadillac, the founder of Detroit. From its inception, it set a standard for quality and luxury and remains the de facto term for the same.

In 1908, The Dewar Trophy was won for successfully demonstrating the interchangeability of its precision parts. This laid the groundwork for modern mass production of automobiles.

Throughout the 1910s and 1920s, incorporation of electrical systems was introduced.  They also made the clashless manual transmission, and the V8 engine, which set the standard for the American automotive industry.

In the post-World War II era, Cadillac became synonymous with American luxury and style. The 1950s saw the introduction of models like the Eldorado and the Series 62, known for their tailfins, chrome trim, and advanced features like power windows and power seats.

During the 1960s and 1970s, models like the de Ville and Fleetwood were introduced and became symbols of status. However, the oil crises of the 1970s led to challenges as consumers began to seek more fuel-efficient vehicles.

To meet a changing market, the 1980s and 1990s, saw smaller, more fuel-efficient models. The brand also began to diversify its lineup to compete more effectively with European and Japanese luxury car manufacturers.

Cadillac in the New Century

Moving into the 21st century, introduced of the Escalade, a full-size luxury SUV, which helped redefine the brand’s image. Additionally, models like the CTS and ATS allowed direct competition with European luxury brands.

Today, Cadillac continues to be a leading luxury brand, known for its design, technology, and performance. It has embraced electrification and cutting-edge technology, demonstrated in models like the Lyriq, their first all-electric vehicle.  They continue to evolve with market demand as a symbol of American automotive.
