Chrysler, was founded in 1925 by Walter P. Chrysler.  It emerged from the remnants of the Maxwell Motor Company and quickly established itself.

The early years were marked by engineering feats and a focus on advanced technology. In 1924, the Six was introduced, featuring innovations such as a high-compression engine, four-wheel hydraulic brakes, and a shock-absorbing system.  These attributes set new standards for performance and safety in the automotive industry as their first launched car in 1925.

The 1930s saw Chrysler introduce the Airflow, the first car designed using aerodynamic principles. However, the Airflow was ahead of its time and wasn’t a commercial success, but it did lay the groundwork for future designs.

During the post-World War II era, Chrysler, like many American automakers, experienced significant growth. The 1950s and 1960s saw the introduction of popular models like the 300 series, known for its powerful Hemi engines.

The 1970s and 1980s were challenging for Chrysler, with the energy crisis and increased competition from foreign automakers. In response, under the leadership of Lee Iacocca, focus shifted to smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles.  They introduced one of the first front-wheel-drive models like the K-car platform and the minivan, which revolutionized family transportation.

Chrysler in the 21st Century

In the late 20th and early 21st centuries they expanded through partnerships and mergers.  The most significant merger was with Daimler-Benz AG in 1998, forming DaimlerChrysler. This merger was short-lived, with financial difficulties, leading to its acquisition by Fiat in 2014, forming Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA).

It is now part of the multinational conglomerate Stellantis, following the 2021 merger of FCA and the PSA Group.  Now focusing on a smaller lineup, mostly consisting of minivans and family sedans. The brand is known for models like the Pacifica, a modern minivan with features like hybrid technology.
