Testing and Replacing the Fuel Injection Relay

  4. Test for Resistance: Set multimeter to ohms and measure the resistance across the coil terminals.  You should see a resistance reading (often between 50 to 120 ohms, but this can vary). If the multimeter shows infinite resistance or no continuity, the relay’s coil is defective.
  5. Check for Switch Operation:
    • Set the multimeter to the continuity setting.
    • Test for continuity between the load circuit terminals. In the normal state (relay not energized), you should not get a continuity reading for Normally Open (NO) relays or you should get a continuity reading for Normally Closed (NC) relays.
    • To test if the switch operates, connect a battery across the coil terminals to energize the relay. You should hear a click as the relay activates.
    • Now, check for continuity again between the load circuit terminals. The reading should change (NO relays will now show continuity, NC relays will not).
  6. Reinstall or Replace

Locating and Replacing the Fuel Pump

  1. Locate the Pump: In the TL, the fuel pump is inside the fuel tank.
  2. Access the Tank: You’ll need to remove the back seat to reach the tank’s access panel.
