The tire pressure light (an amber horseshoe with an exclamation mark) means at least one tire is low, or the monitoring system has a fault. In Toronto it often appears on the first cold morning of fall. Radman Auto Repair checks and adjusts tire pressures, finds slow leaks, repairs punctures properly from the inside, and services TPMS sensors in Etobicoke.
Quick answer: a steady TPMS light means a tire is low: check all four with a gauge and inflate to the door-jamb pressure. A light that flashes and then stays on means a sensor or system fault.
At a glance
- Steady light: one or more tires low, often from cold weather or a slow leak
- Flashing, then steady: a TPMS sensor or system fault
- Correct pressure: the door-jamb sticker, checked cold
- Repairable puncture: in the tread, up to about 6 mm, repaired from the inside
- Pricing: call (416) 742-4521 for a quote
Why the TPMS Light Comes On
Cold weather pressure drops as the temperature falls, so the light comes on in the first cold snap.
Slow leak a nail or screw, a leaking valve stem or a bead leak from a corroded rim.
Dead sensor battery sensor batteries are sealed in and last several years; then the sensor is replaced.
Winter wheels without sensors the car cannot see them and shows a fault.
Damaged sensor from a pothole, a tire change or corrosion at the valve.
Needs a relearn some cars must relearn sensor positions after a rotation or new sensors.
Direct and Indirect TPMS
Most cars use direct TPMS: a sensor inside each wheel reports its pressure. Some use indirect TPMS, which compares wheel speeds through the ABS sensors and has no sensors in the wheels. Indirect systems usually need a reset from the dash or a button after you inflate the tires; check your owner’s manual.
Flat Tire Repair Done Properly
- We remove the tire from the wheel and inspect it inside; driving on a flat can damage the sidewall where you cannot see it.
- A repairable puncture is fixed with a combination patch-plug from the inside, which seals the inner liner and fills the hole.
- A plug pushed in from the outside is only an emergency fix; it should be replaced with a proper repair.
- Sidewall or shoulder damage, large cuts and tires driven flat are replaced, ideally in pairs on the same axle.
- We check the valve stem and TPMS sensor, balance the wheel and set all four pressures.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my tire pressure light on when the tires look fine?
Tires can be 20 to 25 percent low before they look low. Cold weather also drops pressure, roughly one psi for every 5 to 6 °C, so the light often appears on the first cold morning of fall. Check all four with a gauge.
Why is my TPMS light flashing?
A light that flashes for about a minute and then stays on means a fault in the TPMS system itself: a sensor with a dead battery, a damaged sensor, or wheels without sensors, such as a winter set.
What pressure should my tires be?
The pressure on the sticker in the driver’s door jamb, not the maximum printed on the tire sidewall. Check it when the tires are cold.
Can every flat tire be repaired?
No. A puncture in the tread area up to about 6 mm can be repaired properly from the inside. Punctures in the sidewall or shoulder, large cuts, or a tire driven flat for a distance must be replaced.
Do my winter wheels need TPMS sensors?
If your car has direct TPMS and the winter wheels have no sensors, the warning light will stay on all winter. Sensors can be fitted to the winter set and registered to the car.
Will having the work done at an independent shop affect my warranty?
No. Using an independent shop for maintenance and repairs does not void your new-vehicle warranty. Keep your invoices; we document the parts and work on every job.
