Not sure if your issue needs a diagnosis? Tap a symptom below for a quick explanation. For the complete diagnostic breakdown of every AC symptom, see the Car AC Repair Specialists Toronto hub.
AC Blowing Warm Air
The most common complaint. Could be a refrigerant leak, failed compressor, restricted TXV, damaged condenser, or HVAC control fault — we test before recommending a recharge.
AC Not Working At All
No cold air at any setting could mean a failed compressor, low refrigerant triggering a safety cutoff, an electrical fault, or a seized clutch — requires systematic testing to pinpoint.
AC Cold Then Warm (Intermittent)
Cools for a while then fails — often a TXV sticking closed, moisture in the system, or a compressor clutch cycling fault. See the Intermittent AC Diagnosis page.
AC Only Works on the Highway
Cools at speed but fails at idle — typically a weak condenser fan, a partially restricted condenser, or a borderline low charge.
Musty or Mouldy Smell
Usually mould or bacteria on the evaporator core, not a refrigerant issue. Treatable with proper evaporator and cabin filter service.
Noise, Rusted Lines, or Warm on One Side
Clicking, squealing, hissing, rusted AC lines, or one side warm and one side cold all point to specific, diagnosable causes — see the full AC diagnostic hub for details.
What to Expect to Pay
AC repair costs vary because the failure can be anything from a $150 recharge to a $1,500 compressor replacement. The diagnosis is what tells us — and you — exactly what's needed.
