In 2020, the focus was maintaining its status as a performance-oriented hybrid sports car. The 2020 had the same powertrain as the 2019 model, with both Coupe and Roadster variants offering thrilling performance.

To commemorate the end of production, BMW released the limited Ultimate Sophisto Edition in 2020. Limited to 200 worldwide, this special edition featured the unique Sophisto Grey paint. It had copper accents, and exclusive interior touches to set it apart from other i8 models.
