By the Radman Auto Repair team, independent auto repair in Etobicoke since 1999 · Updated October 2026
The Chevrolet Bolt is one of the most common used EVs in the GTA, and many 2017–2022 cars received new battery modules or packs under GM’s battery recall. As they age, brakes, tires, the 12V battery and the cooling system need attention.
Quick answer: EVs still need brakes, tires, suspension, cabin filters, coolant and 12V battery care. Radman services the Bolt in Etobicoke with high-voltage safe procedures, and sends warranty and recall items to the dealer.

12V battery an aging 12V battery causes no-start and warning messages.
Brake corrosion rear brakes in particular rust from low use in salted winters.
Cabin heat the Bolt uses a resistive heater with no heat pump; a weak heater or heater core coolant issue shows up as poor cabin heat.
Charging faults charge port and on-board charger issues; scan before replacing parts.
Tire wear and TPMS low-rolling-resistance tires wear and lose pressure in the cold. See TPMS light.
Bolt Maintenance
- Coolant: the battery and cabin heater share a coolant system; follow GM’s interval.
- Brakes: clean and lubricate yearly, rear brakes especially.
- Tires: rotate on schedule and keep pressures right for range.
- 12V battery: test yearly; replace before winter if weak.
- Buying used: confirm the battery recall was done; see pre-purchase inspection.

Frequently Asked Questions
Was my Bolt’s battery replaced under the recall?
Check your VIN with Chevrolet or ask the dealer. Completed recalls are recorded against the VIN. On a used Bolt, confirm it before you buy.
Why is my Bolt’s heater weak?
The Bolt heats the cabin with a coolant heater. Low coolant, a heater fault or the climate settings can reduce heat. We test the system.
Do you service the Bolt EUV?
Yes. The EV and EUV share the same drivetrain and service needs.
How often does a Bolt need service?
Tire rotations every 10,000 km or so, a yearly brake clean and inspection, cabin filter changes, and coolant at GM’s interval.
Will servicing my EV at an independent shop affect the warranty?
No. Maintenance and non-warranty repairs at an independent shop do not void your vehicle or battery warranty. Warranty repairs and recalls are done by the dealer; we tell you when a problem looks like one.
